Why do people always say to post to your story to get more views

I constantly see videos of people saying if you make a video that flops, post it to your story and it will start getting views. I do not understand why people always say this when my stories get 0 views and most of my most successful posts were never on my story. Is there something to this or is it just creators farming people's hopes and dreams.
