tiktok is on its way out

i feel like tiktok has just become such slop. i have had my account for 10 years at this point. what’s with this new ai feature that you have to manually opt out of? on every video? there’s videos on my account from when i was like 13 and you’re telling me those can just be remixed into whatever ai spits out? that’s just frightening.

every video i post comes up on my own fyp and it’s being asked to promote?? i’m not an influencer, so why would i need to push my videos?

there’s so many bot comments on every single video. telling you to buy a book, or a course.

if you look anything up, there’s like several tiktok shop ads in between each video, having absolutely nothing to do with what you searched. it’s just so annoying.

they have minimized the ad indicator, so you have to look more closely to see if something is an ad. which is so slimey.

i think this app is just going downhill, and this is the first time i have really just considered deleting my account. the ai feature is really frustrating to me, nobody asked for this.

thoughts?

I gave up on it a while back with all the AI slop. I just couldn’t take it although Facebook is getting just as bad but I hate Facebook too. I end up reading more articles now then looking at any videos because the videos are all just crap.

I stopped regularly using tiktok months ago. I have it on my old phone and only really use it when I want to look up a recipe or something I've saved from back when it was good. I can't believe I'm saying this but tiktok has become... boring. You have to scroll thru so many ads, sponsored shit, tiktok shop vids, and more, to finally get to watch ONE video worth watching. It's like fucking QVC over there. Before I struggled hard to not use tiktok. Now I dont even think to check it. For that im actually grateful. Cuz I spent too much time on there

I quit it when it was for sale. I could see the writing on the wall.

It’s getting really bad. I stuck around when a bunch of people jumped ship because my algorithm was still mostly fine but my god is it almost unusable now.

You cant' even opt out of the Ai content despite them promising that feature would be rolled out soon

"what’s with this new ai feature that you have to manually opt out of? on every video?"

Whoa, wait. What?

As someone who is about to open a TT account to use for marketing my book (I have some nifty scripts I'm planning to release), this is very concerning. What do you mean I have to opt out of every video? Can you explain a bit more so I have a better understanding of what I'm about to get into? I'd appreciate it.

It’s been slop for months man. The content is too reminiscent of Instagram Reels. Some might chalk it up to the sale, but it’s been like this before. The app is just too mainstream now. EVERYONE is on it. Doesn’t feel the TT from before 2022-2023. Feels like IG Reels or YT Shorts 2.0

Ok since you asked, I'm bored so I'm gunna yap. All my favorite news stations and journalists are on tiktok and IMO, the algorithm is better than insta, if you're a news junky like me. HOWEVER, the censorship on TikTok is OUT OF CONTROL and I'm not a sensitive little snowflake who can't handle gore, I like watching car crashes and shit cuz it makes me a cautious driver 🤣 so I use both, TT for quick mainstream news and Insta for violent gorey news and entertainment. BUT I don't disagree with you that TikTok could be on its way out as far as the fastest-growing SM app, since the creator rewards program got BAD when the American companies took over our side of the app. Their pay rate per view or whatever went down, and reasons for being kicked out of the program has expanded so much they can kick anyone for anything now.

Been feeling this too man. Had mine since early days and its wild how different it got. The AI thing is seriously sketchy - like you said having old videos from when we were kids potentially getting used for who knows what. I tried opting out but it keeps asking again on every single video which feels intentional

The bot comments are insane now. Used to be just normal people responding but now half the comments are trying to sell you some crypto course or dropshipping guide. And yeah the shop integration is so aggressive - I searched for car repair tips last week and got flooded with random kitchen gadgets and fitness supplements between actual results

What really bugs me is how they made the ad labels tiny. You have to squint to see that little "Sponsored" text now. Plus my shrimp tank videos keep getting pushed as "content to promote" like bro nobody wants to pay to boost my 20 second clip of cherry shrimp eating algae wafers lol

The whole vibe changed from creative weird content to this corporate money grab. Might be time to just stick with making music and leave the social media stuff behind
