People finding your address?

There have been way more people recently that have commented on others accounts saying that “I’ll find out who you are” and “I have your IP address.” Then popping up a day later saying “I found you” when there will be no personal identification on someone’s account. I’ve constantly seen this on political posts.

Can people actually find out who and where you live based off your profile or a video? I’ve always been told no, so I’m assuming these people are bluffing and trying to scare others? Sorry if this is a dumb post but it’s honestly so corny when people say “I’ll find where you live.” 😭

Yes, whenever you post a picture online it has metadata in it. You can search the metadata with some websites and it will tell you information such as where that picture was taken and when. It specifically comes from GPS coordinates or EXIF data.

So yes be careful when you upload things online. Someone who really wants to can get your location pretty easily. I suggest using a tool that removes original metadata from your media.
