No notifications from tiktok on android

I am using a pixel 10 pro with android 17. I cannot get any notifications at all from tiktok, I really want to be notified of direct messages. I've enabled the in app notification settings. Toggled them off and on. Same for system notification settings. I've set the app battery usage to unrestricted, allowed background usage, allowed it to bypass do not disturb. I've gone through system all app preferences to reset them all. I've tried clearing cache, storage, logging out, deleting the app, restarting in various orders many times. I've tried a doze stopper app. No matter what, I've never gotten a notification from tiktok. This is the first phone I've ever downloaded tiktok on.

This is the only app giving me this issue, but I don't have any other social media app to compare experiences with. What else can I do?
