Why is TikTok full of drama now????

Tbh there has always been drama, but that drama used to be contained to niche communities. Now, as soon as something happens in said niche communities the algorithm shows EVERYBODY because there are so many people on the platform. Your fyp is no longer mostly people you follow or people they follow, it's a general hub that will show you stuff you're actually interested once in the blue moon in order to keep you scrolling.

Also, drama and opinions on the drama = views. Being creative and having fun isn't profitable. If you want my two cents, block as many people as you can. Don't like someone's content? Block them. Abuse the not interested and block features. There ARE still people having fun out there, you just have to wade through hundreds of videos of pure garbage just to find them.

This is just my theory. There seems to have been a slight change in what the algorithm pushes. It’s seems to favour posts that have the most conversational engagement. Meaning, posts where people are not just commenting, they’re having conversations in the comments. There are comment threads. Posts where you are inclined to opened the comments to see what others are saying. The algorithm sees this as a sign a video is keeping people on the app longer, which is what they want. Rage bait or posts referencing some drama or controversy are the most likely to have people arguing with each other and discussing in the comments. The problem is, they seem to prioritize this conversational engagement over user preferences… For a while it’s fine, since people actually do stay on the app longer due to these types of posts, even if they don’t like what they see. However, it seems like people, like us, are starting to get annoyed. Hopefully they fix it.
