Can't follow anyone in titkok.

For some reason, I can't follow anyone on TikTok; it just unfollows. For context: I made this account a week ago when my friend convinced me to get a TikTok account. I also followed him after I created my account. Now, after battling with TikTok support to get a solution, it went nowhere, and they closed the support chat. Does anyone have a fix for this? I want to chat with my friends and follow people. Thanks
