No me ignoren porfa

How many rounds of revisions before a post stops being yours? I just watched a good idea die on round 4.

I do social for a few small clients. Last week I wrote a post I was actually proud of. Timely, a little funny, sounded like a real person. Then it went into approvals. Round 1, the hook got softened. Round 2, the joke came out. Round 3, the caption got rewritten to sound more like the brand, which apparently means more like a brochure. Round 4, someone senior who does not spend any time on the platform weighed in and we started over. The final version took 8 days to publish. It is fine. It is also something I would scroll right past. My question for other freelancers: do you cap revision rounds in your contract, and has anyone actually enforced it when a client pushed past the cap? I am thinking two rounds max, then we talk. Curious if that holds up in real life or if clients just laugh at it.

Why doesn’t Apple make a social media platform given all the major privacy concerns out of the popular platforms.

microsoft owns linkedin (imo that is social media). google owns youtube. maybe it is time for Apple to start a social media given the rise of Muse creating personal dossiers on all of its users (Meta - Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp). or even acquire one? I would love to use something other than tiktok, snapchat, instagram, youtube, or linkedin. apple?

Why am I using 5 different tools to manage social media?

Maybe this is just me, but my social media workflow currently looks something like: ChatGPT → content ideas Canva → design Scheduler → publishing Analytics tool → reporting Inbox → replies Spreadsheet → planning And then I'm somehow supposed to call this an "efficient workflow"😂 I'm curious if anyone has actually found a social media management tool that brings more of this together. Especially now that Al tools are becoming more capable. Would you rather have one platform that can actually execute tasks, or do you prefer having separate best-in-class tools?

What is the problem with ads?

I’m not a meta employee, but I am curious what the discourse is on ads? There are certain platforms that I completely agree with, TikTok specifically, 99% of artists who I talk to that paid for the promotion option on TikTok tell me the same thing which is that it’s the worst thing ever and a complete waste of money, I’ve personally never ran an ad on TikTok because even if it weren’t a scam I don’t know how effective I could see that being on such a fast paced scroll and go app, I feel like you’d have to drop a major bag for something like that to really make a difference However, I HAVE ran ads on Instagram, targeted ones AND “suggested audience” ones, I’ll say without a shadow of a doubt the “Suggested Audience” option is a scam, you are going to get 100 followers but 90 of them follow 4000+ people and will never see a single one of your posts again, TARGETED ads however I’ve actually found quite a bit of success with in my niche, my idea of an ad “working” isn’t just the interaction jump and the followers it’s WHO is following you and how likely they are to continue supporting your content/music The mass appeal theory is also very real, people are much more likely to pay attention to something with high engagement then they are to anything smaller. consistent content and quality content will always reign supreme over any form of ads, trial reels also seem to be a massive cheat code a lot of people still somehow haven’t cracked yet, but I’m just super confused why people seem to be so against the idea of an artist running some ads. lmk if I’m missing something though, I could definitely see it not being that great for certain niches

Kimchi’s reported jump from 500K to 25.6M impressions is an interesting distribution case

I’ve been researching how Kimchi’s name spread beyond his original trading audience and bitfan’s July 31 profile reports that one of his X posts reached 25.6 million impressions, compared with roughly 500,000 for earlier posts. That’s about 51 times the earlier figure. These are reported impressions, so they don’t tell us how many individual people saw it or became followers. The content described in the article was largely lifestyle photography. My interpretation is that an existing audience already had a story to attach to those images, which gave people something to discuss when they shared them. That makes the distribution worth examining. I’d want to compare the original post with the quote posts that introduced him to other audiences, then look at whether that attention carried into subsequent uploads. The useful question for content work is how someone becomes recognisable outside the community that first knew them. Kimchi gives us a specific post and a substantial reported change in reach to start investigating.

I tracked my hours for 3 months. My $900 retainer was really a $500 one.

Sharing this because I put the conversation off for almost a year and wish I had not. I have a client on a $900 a month retainer. Original scope was simple: 12 posts a month on two platforms, one monthly report, comments during business hours. By this summer it had quietly become 20ish posts, a third platform, stories most days, a weekly call that was never in the agreement, and comment replies on weekends because I felt awkward saying no. I finally tracked my actual hours for three months. Scoped: about 14 hours a month. Actual: 26, 29, then 31. My effective rate had dropped under $31 an hour, on the client I thought was my best one. What worked when I finally had the talk: I did not lead with a price increase. I sent a short scope report first. Two columns, what we agreed vs what last month actually looked like, with the hours next to each item. Then two options. Keep everything they are getting now at $1,450, or stay at $900 and drop back to the original scope, with the extras listed as add ons they can buy one at a time. Sixty days notice either way. They picked the bigger package in about ten minutes. Nobody was annoyed. The part I keep thinking about is that they had no idea how much had piled up, because I never told them. Half the drift was my fault for just absorbing it. Curious how others handle this. Do you track hours on retainers at all, or price it flat and not look? And when you have had this talk, did you lead with the data or just state the new price?
