Watching everyone share the best trends and nostalgia from TikTok over the past week made me want to make a list of the best eras on the app.

Golden Era: 2019 - 2020

Silver Era: 2021 - 2022

Bronze Era: 2023 - 2025

Alternatively, you might include 2021 in the golden age making it:

Golden: 2019 - 2021

Silver: 2022 - 2023

Bronze: 2024 - 2025

What do you think of my rankings? TikTok is still fun but there's nostalgia now for that golden age, and the memes from the impending ban was the funniest and craziest trend on TikTok in years.

That's just standard nostalgia. I think the golden era is this past year, actually. The "fun" days of TikTok were mostly trivial trends, dances, thirst traps and funny skits. However, TikTok has matured since then and as of late, is used more for communities, political activism, sharing information in real-time, etc. Sure, the funny/trivial/trends/dances are still there, but it's no longer the ONLY thing trending.

Nobody saw TikTok as a threat until we started talking to one another. Hence the ban aka "we don't want to actually ban it but rather control the information/exploit the people ourselves".

I miss the old tik tok. Back before covid when it was still a dancing app with some other cool videos and trends. Fast forward to the last couple of years it has become a cesspool of misinformation and adultery. Don't get me wrong there's still a lot of good content on there but it just doesn't hit the same as it did in 2019-2020. I'd say the turning point of tik tok was 2023 which is on par with your rankings.

Can someone explain to me what happened to the algorithm

For context im based in Canada- over the last couple of months my fyp has become actual garbage. Every other video is an ai ad or an ad for some random iphone game they are pushing, i hardly ever see videos with more than a hundred likes and when i do they arent relevant. mainly its just ai ads and vids with one or two likes for my whole fyp- what happened!!!

Can’t see certain emojis?

I’m gonna be honest I dunno what they are, they’ve only been popping up recently. Now sometimes when I look into the comments I’ll see some comments have \[big LOL\] or just things typed in these brackets. I’m guessing these are emojis? But I can’t see them. Only the text. Edit: And if these aren’t emojis I have no clue what they are. I just wanted to clarify I don’t know what I’m seeing.
