[Build Help] PoE2 Bloodmage Spark / CoC – damage + proc issues

Hey all, looking for some help with my Bloodmage Spark / Cast on Crit setup.

I’m trying to start building and running my own Temples, but once I hit maps my build just isn’t coming online. Spark damage feels really low, and my CoC barely procs, so mapping feels bad and bosses are a slog. Most of my currency so far has been from leeching Temples off other players, but I want to start doing my own instead of relying on others.

What I’m confused about is how other Bloodmages are getting:

  • 100k+ Spark damage
  • Consistent CoC procs
  • What looks like 2–3 Comets per second

Clearly I’m missing something fundamental. I’m guessing it’s one (or more) of:

  • Crit chance is at 100% with pinpoint critical (67% without).

Questions:

  • What should I prioritize first to make CoC feel consistent?
  • How are people actually scaling Spark damage to those numbers?
  • Is it worth pivoting into Elemental Weakness with Doedre’s Undoing, or is that bait for this setup?

Any advice, explanations, or PoB links would be massively appreciated. Thanks!

Atziris head piece with + to skill damage would probably help a lot. Not sure why your CoC isn’t going off. Your comet damage isn’t even showing up on poeninja which is weird.

Looked at your Poe.ninja. I would replace your helmet with Vertex +3 or 4 will work. Get a staff that has +6 all spell and +1 spell rune. You don’t have to worry about mana with blood mage so I would get rid of those staff prefixes of mana and try for a different % inc roll or gain as extra mod. Also very important if you’re going to drop helm to have 70% + crit chance for spells on your staff suffix.

You spec mana and go bloodmage?

Levels are King. Go for 21/20 gems, and more expensive supports if possible.

Vertex with +4 is needed.

Try to get 50 Spirit on Amulett —> coc + siphon elements + Arctic armor is rly nice offensive and defence whise.

Orb of Storms and thunderstorm is rly rly nice for bosses and untility on maps.

If you can get a staff with damage as extra Fire you can go with snap on your coc, ele equelibrium is also good in my opinion.

Remove pinpoint asap (around 85% cc)

Soul thether (cultivated) with fast meta annoint will make you 1000% more tanky.

Beside that is cast Speed king.

You will struggle with some mechanics as you get more +lvl, but that will take some time I guess.

You definitely need to improve the spark damage to see more comets. Also try to improve crit chance so you can drop the Pinpoint critical gem.

This is my build for reference: https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/Floher-7089/character/JohnaSevenfold

These are some improvements I can think of:

  1. For me, the Vertex mask was a huge improvement with the +level to skills. The +4 levels was really expensive but you could get a +3 with decent crit chance.
  2. I also use a unique ring with a lot of crit chance and some extra crit chance on all my jewels to get spark to 99% chance to crit. Also you can try to get a Staff with crit chance for spells.
  3. To get more damage on spark I use Atalui's bloodletting and Rakiata's flow. Also you can try to get cold infusions for spark.
  4. I use Spell cascade on my CoC to get more comets.
  5. For bosses you can use a second staff to cast Sigil of power and replace the Spell cascade on Coc to Concentrated area (I use frost wall just as a storage for this gem).

The improvements can be a bit expensive but this build is expensive in general and I feel like it has no damage cap. I hope you can get it running :)

I suggest this to basically everyone, drop thr +4 all spells wand and get a +5 cold and play ele weakness doedres undoing instead.

I played that shit on like a 10d budget on 2nd wind private league and I cleared everything with ease and all I had was like 75% crit.

Get the sacred flame sceptre if you’re gonna use a sceptre with only 100 spirit on it anyway, might as well get one to buff your damage.

Alternatively, get rid of cast on ailment and get a cheap rathpith instead of the sceptre or a +7 cold staff with some decent stats, again, this would be while using ele weaknes + doedres as your main skill.

With CoC the biggest thing is getting your crit to 96.4% when in hideout because Evocational Practicioner will give you the 100% needed. As for the amount of CoC procs it amounts to the damage of your Spark. So scaling damage with +skills, crit damage, ele damage, spell damage, all that stuff is useful. I will share my poe.ninja to show how mine is setup. My weapon set 2 is for farming crystals so ignore that. I am using Cast on Crit, Siphon Elements, and Blink for my main damage setup.

I decided to try stacking energy shield - at minimum level.

I got bored at this stage in the league and decided to spend many of my hard earned divines on a small project. Wouldn't it be funny to stack Energy shield for a min-level char? [https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a027](https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a027) Tabula rasa has relevant jewel mods noted on it in POB so the math actually works out since it doesn't seem to work properly in POB. second screenshot is with a lvl 29 discipline aura with 36% increased aura magnitude - I didn't wanna spend another several thousand divines on a support character, I just wanted to see how well it would work theoretically >3000 ES without aurabot is possible, however, its basically impossible in practice. As of now, there are \*18\* 2 socket uncorrupted crown of thorns left on trade - on average it takes \~11 to hit a 30% and then another 1 in 3 to get a 3 socket one. Hitting a double corrupt on said 3 socket would be better then my current one, but that's not plausible sadly. Same for the boots. Hitting a better double corrupt on the gloves and focus would likely be plausible, but I couldn't buy more bases from Finn. Grip of Kulemak 59% ES \*should\* be possible, but it already took me over 40 attempts to hit 57% so I think I'll just leave it as is. Belt I didn't find any other way besides the 25% corrupt to get ES without a level requirement - if anyone has any idea tell me. Amulet could sanctify for 19/19 but again, would require silly amounts of currency (each try is \~30 div as is with annoint + sanctify + quality). I \*think\* patient barrier should be best annoint, but correct me if I'm wrong. Total investment into this character so far is about 3000 divines, probably a bit more. further thoughts \- maximum technically possible is 3112 ES at level 2 unless I'm missing something important. POB [https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a02a](https://poe.ninja/poe2/pob/1a02a) \- doubting this but: is it possible to get an ascendency at this low level by skipping straight to geonor with a helper? In which case it might be possible that xp penalties kicking it would allow me to ascend at lvl 2? This would allow +20% +20% (ascendency) +60% (jewel) ES, which would get me to 3218 ES (actual build) / 3732 ES (max technically possible) Did I miss anything?

Rakiata who?

Rakiata who?

I made an elemental crossbow varashta sorc this season as my starting build (goal was to exploit yoke of suffering's full potential, you can find poe ninja below, don't be fooled by the dmg tooltip, it kill ubers before they can move) and so since I was in the intel side of the tree I used my weapon swap to maximize exposure (with whispering ice) and curse magnitude. Here with some non-optimized gear I'm reaching a total of -338% res (that's -169% on bosses), meaning it's better than rakiata's. I use cursed ground support to apply the curse and icestorm (which comes with the staff) with prolonged duration and potent exposure to make the exposure last longer. This tech doesn't require much investment apart from your weapon swap and a few sockets at most so it can be plugged into many elemental builds. As it is now, it requires you to cast the spells with your weapon swap, so I use it mostly for bosses, but i might cast icestorm on bulky rares in juiced maps once in a while. If you have a skill dedicated for mapping, it'll propably better to use rakiata on it, and remove it or use another skill for bosses. Here's the poeninja: [https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/McZaatar-0907/character/Dendjala](https://poe.ninja/poe2/profile/McZaatar-0907/character/Dendjala) I might make a build showcase if people are interested, it's a fun league starter build. With yoke and the electrocution node on the tree, enemies have 120% damage taken, more if they're cursed, on top of the giant res drop, plus you benefit from a lot of the "damage against enemies with ailments nodes" so that's why the tooltip is low (explosive grenades indicate 60k in game but they hit bosses for like 2M) at first I was playing with permafrost bolt with frost nexus + navira's fracture + fragmentation rounds, it was a fun combo and really strong for leveling but I couldn't scale navira's fracture damage in late game (I had command + minion nodes on my second weapon instead of the curse/exposure at the time) Hope this inspires some of you!
