Earlier this year I saw an older gentleman at the Property Appraisers office screaming about how he shouldn't be paying the portion of his assessment that went to public schools because his kids already finished school. Absolutely clueless, like most Americans. Citizens don't want to pay for anything until they suddenly need it.

The IRS does not collect property taxes, that's all local government. And those aren't rent, its to support local infrastructure likenschools and roads. Those tax obligations are secured by your home. Just like any crime, not paying taxes has a penalty.
