I grew up knowing this family (the no electricity ones) and they are some of the kindest and sweetest people I ever met to this day. The mom and one of the daughters went through nursing school together and they’re all absolutely beloved by their various communities.

They were edited to be outrageous and backward when really they were (and are) very sensible practical people prioritising community and music and care over material wealth! All still happy and healthy as far as I last heard

I live in a log cabin, I absolutely love it but, most women that I've had visit do not like it and equate it to a low standard of living. 10 years ago I did the math, decided to retire from a C suite at 52, left a modern 3300 sq st 800k home ,sold all the"toys", I'v e never in my life been more content and had such peace of mind. To me, I find this life much more "rich" than any.
