Rednote asking for resident ID card ID number (but I’m American)

Hi!! After creating my Rednote account I was able to comment and post and like videos but now I’m unable to comment and post. I’m shown a page that says “there is a security risk in the account” when I try to post/comment. To verify my info I am taken to a page called “personal real name authentication” and then there are fields for me to enter my resident ID card information, specifically my name and real ID number. I am confused because I don’t believe I ever gave a ID number when I signed up so I’m not sure what ID number to put. I am American btw. Any ideas?

Same thing happening to me. One creator on tik tok said it’s a glitch since so many people joined so I am waiting to see if it will be resolved or should I delete my account and try again.

Wait for Rednote to respond. This is really bad for Americans.

I had this happen to me yesterday! Today I downloaded the newest update for the app, and just saw ~20 min ago that instead of 2 options, they now have 4, and one of them is "foreign passport" where you provide your passport information. I'm going to wait a little until there is more English language information about it!

I'm having the same issue. I finally received my verification code and was able to bind my mobile number and create a password, and somehow I got logged out. Now, it's asking for a phone number, my real name, AND an ID number to log back in, and I was never given an ID number.

Is it really worth it for you to give away your personal information just to use a social app?

Well, don’t give anyone your ID (sincere advice from Chinese)
