My best post this month got 40k views and zero bookings. What do you actually put in a client report?
Genuine question for the freelancers and small agency folks here.
Last month my best performing post for a client hit about 40k views, a pile of saves, comments I was proud of. The client looked at the report, nodded at all of it, and then asked the only question that mattered to them: did anyone actually book?
Bookings from that post: zero. I had no good answer, because my whole report was reach, engagement rate, follower growth. All true, none of it connected to their money.
Since then I have been rebuilding how I report. I track enquiries and bookings first, even if the attribution is messy and I have to say so. Saves and replies go in as supporting signals, not the headline. The awkward part is that some months the honest numbers look worse than the vanity version, and I worry a client would rather see the pretty chart.
So what do you actually put in a monthly report? Do you lead with business outcomes even when they are flat? How do you handle attribution when a booking clearly came from social but you cannot prove which post did it? And has anyone lost a client by being too honest in a report, or is that just my fear talking?
