figuring out tiktok algo/ reels vs tiktok

Hi! I'm a business owner and naturally started making content, i've noticed that my content does waaaaaaaay better on reels/instagram. I get a lot more engagement + viewership. I've had the same video get 30 likes on tiktok, then get over 100k likes on instagram. i've been trying to figure out why it's been difficult to get into tiktoks algo. I cross post on both, i don't really edit the video. Do you guys edit the videos for each platform? For tiktok, have you found more success niching down a video? does talking verbally to audience help?

i have tried a couple of these but ultimately it still is kind of the same output. maybe my audience does not exist on tiktok? I know it might be different for everyone but i'm just wondering what has worked for posting on tiktok vs reels

would appreciate any advice :)

That 100k-to-30 gap is a lot. For the same video, compare what people comment about and whether they ask about the product or next steps, not just how many likes it gets. That can show whether TikTok is reaching a different audience or just getting less response from the same kind of people.

I have the same problem. I've been on both for 3 years, and I've never been able to get traction on TikTok :(

Treat them as separate tests rather than one video being judged by two identical systems. Keep the same core clip, but make a few TikTok-native variants: state the payoff in the first frame, remove any Instagram watermark, cut dead time, and use a spoken or on-screen hook that makes sense to someone who does not already follow you.

Test a consistent set of variants across several posts before deciding your audience is absent. Compare completion rate, rewatches, shares, and profile visits rather than likes alone. If people leave immediately, rework the opening. If retention is healthy but distribution stays small, then audience fit, topic classification, or account history is more likely than the underlying video quality. The 100k Instagram result proves the idea works in that context; it does not mean the unchanged edit should behave the same on TikTok.

Do you ever feel like you're creating content for the algorithm instead of actual people?

I've been managing social media for a while now and now it feels like every platform wants something completely different. One week it's short videos then it's carousels then someone says posting less gets better reach every time I think I've figured something out it feels like the rules change again. The other night I was scrolling on my phone looking at accounts in my niche and I noticed the posts I actually stopped to read weren't the ones that looked the most polished they were the ones that felt like someone was sharing a real opinion or experience instead of trying to game the algorithm. It made me wonder if I've been spending too much time chasing what I think the platform wants instead of making content that people would care about even if there wasn't an algorithm involved. Has anyone else started shifting back toward that mindset or is it just me?

How do you guys find trending sounds, edits and content ideas?

Hey guys, just curious how you all keep up with trends on TikTok and Instagram? I'm talking trending sounds, cool transitions, editing styles, viral formats, UGC ideas etc. Do you use any specific websites, tools or accounts to find this stuff? Or is it literally just scrolling through TikTok and Reels until you find something? Trying to find a better way to spot trends early rather than when everyone's already doing them lol.

Thoughts on Insta comments Disabled

What are peoples thoughts of intentionally disabling comments on insta for a new clothing brand? I have weighed the pros and cons of doing this. There can be so much negativity spewed in the comments section by bots and people simply wanting to comment negatively. I am leaning closer to disabling purely to safeguard my own wellbeing, nothing more, and id be accepting the negatives of this.
