Is there such a thing as a normal number of views for an account your size

got kind of nerdy about this recently. pulled median views per video across a bunch of accounts, different follower sizes, and the biggest accounts werent reliably the ones with the highest median views once you got under about 100k followers. the under 5k follower group specifically had a median sitting around 1850 views a video, which is lower than id have guessed going in

caveat though, and this bugs me every time i see this kind of number thrown around without it, this was outlier search data, so every account in it is there because it already had a video break out at some point. an account that posts 60 times and never breaks out once doesnt show up in a tool like that at all. so the real number for a totally average account with zero hits is probably lower than 1850, not higher, we just cant see it because those accounts are invisible to the tool

point is if your views are sitting near or under that and your follower count is way bigger than what that would predict, it doesnt automatically mean somethings broken. might just be normal, follower count was never predicting this well at this size to begin with

curious if anyone tracks this by account size instead of by video, what do your own numbers actually look like

Does TikTok distribute videos based on where you are located?

I recently started a TikTok account where I share my experience living abroad in my native language. I expected my videos to reach people in my home country who are curious about what life is like here. But most of the people watching and commenting seem to be people from my same country who already live here too. They comment things like “I felt the same when I moved here.” It feels like TikTok is mainly showing my videos to people in the country where I currently live rather than people back home. Does TikTok prioritize showing videos based on the creator’s location at first? Or will the algorithm eventually reach people in other countries who speak the language?

i got 4.5million views last week, high level blueprint.

i went viral. 4.5million views last week. how? or more like how tf can you or your companies or your employees do this? I've been posting content consistently for 2 years, and this is my blueprint. Your content is mainly formats, subjects, and user value. in that order. 1. Format - steal your formats from other accounts that are doing well right now. For my account, before & afters work best, followed by 4-part transformation videos. Followed by talking to the camera storytimes. \*once you find a video format that works keep using it ver and over until you literally hit 1M views or followers. If its working, keep doing it. duh.\* 2. subjects - what is your video about? pick 1 subject and every video is a slight variation of that. mine is my transformation story. ("I went into the hospital for psychosis, after that I got super depressed, then I knew I wanted to make a change, so I founded my company \[name redacted\] and focused on trying to build a life.") 3. user value - why tf would anyone watch you? they dont care about you, they care about themselves. Are you showing something they need to see? Giving unique/accurate/useful advice? Offering a valuable shift in perspective? Connecting them to resources? (My personal approach to user value is to give it all away for free. Leave it all on the floor. If I know something of value to you I will simply tell you for free and generously. If my app is good, you will use it. If my content is good, you will follow me without me needing to do any bamboozling). So there is it! Format, Subject, User Value is my high level blueprint. I can break down how i researched and decided on my specific styles for each if anyone finds that interesting. Every account doing well in my niche is using the exact same format and its kind of unsettling

went digging into the top performing accounts in a niche i follow closely, expecting to see some spread, different formats, different approaches. found basically one shape repeated over and over, someone talking straight to camera, educational tone, the same three or four hook styles rotating checked across 50 plus videos and there wasnt a single one using b-roll or footage-led storytelling instead of talking head. not one. which either means talking head is just the objectively strongest format for that topic, or it means everyone copied whoever won first and nobody has actually tested anything else in years i lean toward the second explanation, because the highest performers in that same set also had engagement patterns that looked more like a comment funnel than real interest, so "winning" and "actually working for the business behind it" might not be the same thing here at all curious if this is specific to my niche or something that shows up everywhere once you look close enough

When do you decide a social platform is sending the wrong kind of traffic?

I've been looking at social traffic reports more closely lately, and I keep running into the same problem: a platform can look successful while doing almost nothing for the business. Lots of impressions and clicks, but very few people stick around, return, enquire or buy. I used to compare platforms mostly by sessions and CTR. Now I'm more interested in whether the post and landing page make the same promise, and what people actually do after the click. I'm also not sure it makes sense to judge every network the same way. Someone arriving from LinkedIn may be researching a business problem. An Instagram visitor may need a shorter, more visual path before they're ready to act. The difficult part is deciding when there's enough evidence to stop investing in a channel. Low volume makes the data noisy, but "awareness is hard to measure" can also become an excuse to keep doing something that isn't working. Have you ever stopped using a platform that was sending plenty of traffic because the visitors were the wrong fit? What convinced you?

Sharing my learnings and hoping to learn more from you!

i've recently started posting more on social media (professionally for work), but i find it quite challenging. i talked to some friends in the industry and wanted to share some learnings, and most importantly, also to learn from all of you. a few learnings: 1. **post consistently**. it helps a lot with building up the profile, and sometimes, there'll be that 1 post that will just randomly get favored by the algorithm. posting consistently helps increasing the odds for that to happen. 2. **content scheduling**. personally, i find it hard to post consistently because it takes a lot of time to prepare for content. so, i've been trying to get into rhythm of building up better schedule so that i can batch prepare content, and schedule the posts. 3. **iterate on the content format**. keep trying out different format, and if something works, double down on it. if not, then take a step back. what have you tried? what's working and what's not?
