Fail After Fail. What Am I Missing?

I used to be an instagram editor (transition edits with AE and Video Star, multi-fandom animation & comics) back during 2019-2022, and I had a really healthy account. I would make edits, the views would come, average 600-1000, and the likes and followers would soon follow. Definitely was getting at least 50-100 likes a video, good ratios for the most part. Even had the occasional viral post. At my peak, I had 900 followers.

After 2022, the community I was a part of pretty much died. People became inactive, I lost interest, and I would edit in bursts (a video every 6 months). I've recently began editing on a consistent basis, but the landscape is so much different now. All of my followers are dead and I receive practically zero engagement. After doing the math myself, I'm averaging 119 views and 7 likes a video, no followers gained at all. Yikes.

I figured if I was going to be editing regularly again, I should make a tiktok and post on there as well as my instagram account. I've had significantly better reach on tiktok, but it's not as consistent as I'd like. Another thing slightly bothering me is that I only have 11 followers, but I've been posting for about 2 and a half months. Not as consistently as I would always like, but I have 14 posts since the end of July.

At the end of the day, I'm still going to edit (for the love of the game, it's almost a 10 year hobby of mine) but are any tips or insights as to how I can fix the inconsistency here? Especially the instagram account, it's a shell of what it once was... What am I missing here? Or has the algorithm just changed that drastically?

Probably not the only reason but the fact I could upload a video into an AI app and (no discredit to your work) do exactly the same thing in minutes. Times that by majority of people on socials and the feed becomes flooded with everyone doing the same thing. The fact majority of the shitty ai accounts are posting constantly and churning out just rubbish, that coupled with constant shitty changes to the algorithms have probably it’s your account way out the window.

I think we are limited in what we can do, there is a growing movement of people actively blocking ai accounts, negatively interacting with their posts etc so as that becomes bigger eventually it’ll overtake the ai crap people put out but it’s probably a lot of work for quite a while with not a lot of gain.

the algorithm is basically unrecognizable from what it was in 2019-2022. reels are the only thing instagram pushes now and even then the reach is all over the place

your old follower base being inactive actually hurts you more than having zero followers. the algorithm shows your post to a handful of them, they don't engage because they're ghosts, and then instagram decides the content is dead and stops showing it to anyone else. you might be better off starting a fresh account at this point

tiktok is way more forgiving for new accounts but 14 posts since july isn't enough to get the algorithm to latch onto you. it wants consistency and volume, like 1-2 posts a day minimum. also the multi-fandom animation edit style is a lot more niche now than it was a few years ago, the trends have shifted hard toward capcut templates and quick cuts to trending audio

Seven likes from 119 views is about 6%, so I would not judge the editing by the totals alone. Try a few edits from one active fandom in a row, giving new visitors a clearer reason to follow.

I've been through a similar reset, and honestly your old followers being inactive is probably hurting you on Instagram more than anything. The algorithm tests each post on a slice of your existing followers first, and if they don't engage, it stops pushing. A few things that worked for me:

  1. Treat TikTok and Reels as the discovery channel and judge each video by its first 2 seconds. Open on the most striking transition, not a title card.
  2. Post edits of fandoms that are trending right now. Check what's showing up in the search bar suggestions and build around those names.
  3. Engage in the community daily for 15 minutes: comment thoughtfully on other editors' posts in your niche. Collabs and remix duets with mid-size editors brought me more followers than any hashtag.
  4. Pick 3-4 posting days a week and stick to it for 8 weeks before judging.

I'm Ryan Stevens, I share tips like this as iRuleSocialMedia on Instagram. 11 followers in 2.5 months is a normal restart curve, so don't give up yet.

Why am I using 5 different tools to manage social media?

Maybe this is just me, but my social media workflow currently looks something like: ChatGPT → content ideas Canva → design Scheduler → publishing Analytics tool → reporting Inbox → replies Spreadsheet → planning And then I'm somehow supposed to call this an "efficient workflow"😂 I'm curious if anyone has actually found a social media management tool that brings more of this together. Especially now that Al tools are becoming more capable. Would you rather have one platform that can actually execute tasks, or do you prefer having separate best-in-class tools?

Why doesn’t Apple make a social media platform given all the major privacy concerns out of the popular platforms.

microsoft owns linkedin (imo that is social media). google owns youtube. maybe it is time for Apple to start a social media given the rise of Muse creating personal dossiers on all of its users (Meta - Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp). or even acquire one? I would love to use something other than tiktok, snapchat, instagram, youtube, or linkedin. apple?

Youtube is doubling what it takes to get monetized, and theres a shorts rule in there most people skipped

youtube announced this in august and it kicks in february 1 2027. new channels will need 8,000 watch hours in the last 365 days, up from 4,000, or 20 million shorts views in the last 90 days, up from 10 million. the 1,000 subscriber bar stays. if youre already in the partner program youre grandfathered in, you just have to accept the new terms in studio by january 31 to keep earning on the affected features thats the headline everyone ran. the line i almost missed is on youtubes own help page. to earn from the shorts creator pool each month, creators will need to maintain 10 million qualified shorts views over the last 90 days. the page doesnt spell out whether that part hits people already in the program the same way 10 million every 90 days is a lot for a shorts channel doing fine but not great. you could be monetized on paper and still get nothing from the shorts pool in a slow stretch youtube says the point is to fund new incentive programs for creator growth. my read is the long tail of small shorts channels just got priced out of the pool and whatever was spread across them ends up with the top channels anyone here in ypp mostly on shorts, are you clearing 10 million a quarter right now

Is it worth creating a separate Facebook page for affiliate marketing/content creation?

Hey y’all! I’m fairly new to affiliate marketing and would love some advice from those who have been doing it for a while! I currently have a personal Facebook profile that is monetized with a few thousand followers. I occasionally share affiliate links and actually do pretty well with them considering I’m still a beginner! I’ve been considering creating a separate Facebook page specifically for affiliate marketing, product recommendations, and content creation. My biggest hesitation with continuing to post on my personal profile is that I don’t want to constantly bombard my friends and family with links. For those of you who have experience with this, would you recommend starting a separate page and building an audience specifically interested in that type of content? Or would it make more sense to continue growing my personal profile since I already have an established following? I’m also curious if anyone has made the switch and noticed better engagement, reach, or earnings. I’d love to hear your experiences and opinions!

I spent a year building a social platform around polling. Curious what people think of the concept.

I’ve spent the past year building Pollzy, a social platform where people swipe through polls, vote, see what others think, and discover people based on shared opinions. I recently launched it after building everything solo, and I’m now facing the challenge of getting people to actually use a new social platform. I’m curious what this community thinks. Does a polling-first social network have potential? Would genuinely appreciate some critical feedback.
