build your own thing first, even if it's small. brands care more about what you've already done than a resume with "aspiring" on it

pick a niche you actually like and post consistently for a few months, the dms from smaller brands will start coming in if your content looks pro enough

Why doesn’t Apple make a social media platform given all the major privacy concerns out of the popular platforms.

microsoft owns linkedin (imo that is social media). google owns youtube. maybe it is time for Apple to start a social media given the rise of Muse creating personal dossiers on all of its users (Meta - Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp). or even acquire one? I would love to use something other than tiktok, snapchat, instagram, youtube, or linkedin. apple?

Why am I using 5 different tools to manage social media?

Maybe this is just me, but my social media workflow currently looks something like: ChatGPT → content ideas Canva → design Scheduler → publishing Analytics tool → reporting Inbox → replies Spreadsheet → planning And then I'm somehow supposed to call this an "efficient workflow"😂 I'm curious if anyone has actually found a social media management tool that brings more of this together. Especially now that Al tools are becoming more capable. Would you rather have one platform that can actually execute tasks, or do you prefer having separate best-in-class tools?

Youtube is doubling what it takes to get monetized, and theres a shorts rule in there most people skipped

youtube announced this in august and it kicks in february 1 2027. new channels will need 8,000 watch hours in the last 365 days, up from 4,000, or 20 million shorts views in the last 90 days, up from 10 million. the 1,000 subscriber bar stays. if youre already in the partner program youre grandfathered in, you just have to accept the new terms in studio by january 31 to keep earning on the affected features thats the headline everyone ran. the line i almost missed is on youtubes own help page. to earn from the shorts creator pool each month, creators will need to maintain 10 million qualified shorts views over the last 90 days. the page doesnt spell out whether that part hits people already in the program the same way 10 million every 90 days is a lot for a shorts channel doing fine but not great. you could be monetized on paper and still get nothing from the shorts pool in a slow stretch youtube says the point is to fund new incentive programs for creator growth. my read is the long tail of small shorts channels just got priced out of the pool and whatever was spread across them ends up with the top channels anyone here in ypp mostly on shorts, are you clearing 10 million a quarter right now

I sold ad space on my toilet and it went viral (100M views)

This will sound absurd, but it’s completely true. A few months ago, I started selling ad space on my toilet with the goal to make $1,000,000. It started off as a joke and quickly became not a joke, with 25 major companies spending over $125,000 to purchase ad space. The series has gone completely viral and even got me on the news. I think it’s a fun story so I want to break it down here - why it’s working, what it’s like working with these brands, and how you could do something like this yourself. \*\*How it happened\*\* \- I got the idea from the Red Paperclip story: split my toilet into sections, put a price on each one, better spots cost more, and projection map every logo on with its own animation \- I made a fake demo with Microsoft Teams to test it. It blew up and brands flooded the comments, but none of them were serious, they just wanted the impressions \- So I manufactured the first real deal. I showed MoonPay all the other brands commenting, they said yes, and I used that yes as leverage to close everyone else \- I posted once a day for the first two weeks. Every video told viewers to tag companies, and the more companies joined, the more wanted in \- Then I switched to a flat fee that keeps going up, plus a King of The Throne top spot. So far 25 companies have bought in, spots from $1,000 to $17,000, over $125,000 total, and 100M+ views on my projection mapping videos **Why it's working** \- It's a good story. "Unemployed guy tries to make $1,000,000 from his toilet" is a lot catchier than "experienced marketer makes ads," even though both are true \- I'm the underdog, so the audience sees themselves in it and feels like they could do it too \- It's never been done and it can't be copied. People sell ad space on other things now, but there's only one toilet guy \- People actually want to watch these ads and cheer for the next one. That almost never happens \- The Quality Paradox: the video I spend 5 minutes on beats the one I spend 5 months on. People want the guy figuring it out, not the polished final product **What I learned from working with 30 brands** \- Every brand is different. The hands off ones let me do whatever I want, the hands on ones had specific messaging. I had more fun with the hands off ones \- $10,000 sounds insane for one video until you realize I'm the entire studio: idea, script, design, animation, VFX, marketing. A studio charges $100,000 for that, and the brand gets my audience on top of it **How you can do this too** \- Cold outreach doesn't land brand deals. It works for freelance clients, but brands come to you when you prove yourself \- Views aren't proof. Brands need to see the exact concept they're buying \- Make your own series that involves brands: remake logos, design merch, make fake products, whatever fits you. It has to be yours and you have to actually enjoy it \- Be your own agent. Half of me makes the videos, the other half fights to get them seen \- Take the long shots. I sent dozens of DMs and emails to news stations and media, 99% got ignored. Worst case is a minute of embarrassment, the upside is unlimited \- None of it works if it isn't unapologetically you Hope you enjoyed! Lmk if you have any questions

Managing multiple social platforms feels like managing several separate jobs

for people handling social media across multiple platforms, how do you keep everything manageable? between creating content, adapting creatives for different platforms, scheduling posts, checking analytics, and running paid campaigns, it seems like there's always another dashboard to check. do you use separate tools for each task, an all-in-one platform, or a mix of tools and spreadsheets? i'm curious which part of the workflow takes the most effort for you. is it creating content, keeping everything organised, understanding performance, or something else? would be interested to hear what your actual setup looks like, especially if you're doing this without a large team.

Is anyone else noticing that a lot of music has disappeared from Instagram’s music library?

I’ve noticed that a lot of songs I used to find are either missing or impossible to find through search. Sometimes, searching the artist first doesn’t work, but typing the song title first makes it show up. Like I’ll search for a specific song by its exact title and artist, sometimes music that I remember being available before, and it just won’t show up anymore. Instead, the search results are full of random tracks I’ve never heard of. My recommendations have also gotten weird lately, showing me random music that has nothing to do with what I normally listen to. Is this a bug, a licensing issue, or did Instagram change something?
